R484 Safe Operation Training for Overhead Cranes
The R484 overhead crane training enables operators to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out lifting and handling operations safely.
Operational objectives
Acquire the necessary knowledge for the safe operation of overhead cranes according to CNAM recommendation R489.
Enable the employer to issue an authorization certificate.
To be able to:
- Follow general safety guidelines.
- Identify the risks associated with the use of the equipment.
- Safely operate a ground-controlled overhead crane.
- Use the different types of slings.
- Ensure the safe transport of loads.
- Implement the storage rules.
Regulatory obligations
Decree 2008-244 on mandatory training for the operation of mobile lifting equipment.
Prerequisites and practical advice
Must be over 18 years of age.
Good command of the language in which the training is provided.
Proficiency in basic mathematical operations.
Practical advice:
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Meeting room (in-house) and overhead crane in compliance (in-house).

People who need to handle loads using an overhead crane.
Terms and conditions for accessing training

- Via the pre-registration form (inter-training) and upon validation of the positioning form.
- Deadline according to the schedule of inter-sessions: 1 week before the start of the training.
- Timeframe for in-house sessions: to be agreed upon together.
Training program
Theoretical part (knowledge):
- Regulations, duties and responsibilities.
- Overhead crane technology.
- Lifting accessories.
- Slinging the load.
- Taking up the position.
- Load handling.
- Delicate handling.
- End of position.
Practical part (know-how):
- Conduct an analysis of the handling operations to be carried out and the means to be used.
- Proceed with the on-duty check (PPE, equipment checks and examination).
- Lifting and lowering maneuver
- Empty and loaded traffic maneuvers
- Parking maneuver.
- Storage at the end of the shift.
Duration
- 1 day (7 hours), theory: 4 hours, practice: 3 hours.
- Sign-in per half-day.

Trainers recognized for their pedagogical and technical skills and possessing extensive field experience.
Methods used
- Multimedia presentations, practical case studies, exchanges and feedback.
- Practical exercises and hands-on activities on an educational course.
Evaluation methods
- Theoretical assessment using a multiple-choice questionnaire.
- Assessment of know-how through practical workshops, case studies and simulations (assessment grid).

- Intra: 1 minimum and 5 maximum per session.
- Intermediate: 3 minimum and 5 maximum per session.
