R489 Safe Driving Training for Self-Propelled Trucks

TheR489 self-propelled forklift training enables operators to master the safe operation of rider-operated handling equipment.

In accordance with regulatory requirements, this training prepares employees to use self-propelled trucks safely and allows the employer to issue a driving authorization.

Operational objectives

Acquire the necessary knowledge for the safe operation of self-propelled trucks according to CNAM recommendation R489.
Enable the employer to issue a driving authorization.

To be able to:

  • Analyze the handling procedures to be carried out safely.
  • To take up the position.
  • Safely operate a self-propelled forklift with and without a load.
  • To perform handling maneuvers safely.
  • Perform basic maintenance and report on it.
  • Respect the energy supply procedures.

Regulatory obligations

According to the provisions of the labor code and more particularly article R 4323-555 and 56 as well as through decree 98-1084 of December 2, 1998.

Prerequisites and practical advice

Must be over 18 years of age.
Good command of the language in which the training is provided.
Proficiency in basic mathematical operations.

Practical advice:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Meeting room (in-house) and overhead crane in compliance (in-house).

Target audience

People who need to use self-propelled, ride-on equipment.

Terms and conditions for accessing training

  • Upon request by phone, email, or website.
  • Via the pre-registration form (inter-training) and upon validation of the positioning form.
  • Deadline according to the schedule of inter-sessions: 1 week before the start of the training.
  • Timeframe for in-house sessions: to be agreed upon together.

Training program

Theoretical part (knowledge):

  • Regulation.
  • General description.
  • Categories and suitability.
  • Loads and load-carrying equipment.
  • Load plates.
  • Taking up the position.
  • Circulation.
  • Lifting and transport of people.
  • Handling, stacking and unstacking.
  • Loading a trailer.

Practical part (know-how):

  • Conduct an analysis of the handling operations to be carried out and the means to be used.
  • Proceed with the on-duty check (PPE, equipment checks and examination).
  • Empty and loaded traffic maneuvers.
  • Loading, unloading, stacking, and unstacking maneuvers.
  • Parking maneuver.
  • Storage at the end of the shift.
  • Maintenance and energy supply.

Duration

  • 1 day (7 hours), theory: 4 hours, practice: 3 hours.
  • Sign-in per half-day.

Profile of participants

Trainers recognized for their pedagogical and technical skills and possessing extensive field experience.

Methods used

  • Multimedia presentations, practical case studies, exchanges and feedback.
  • Practical exercises and maneuvers on a training course.

Evaluation methods

  • Theoretical assessment using a multiple-choice questionnaire.
  • Assessment of know-how through practical workshops, case studies and simulations (assessment grid).

Number of participants

  • Intra: 1 minimum and 5 maximum per session.
  • Intermediate: 3 minimum and 5 maximum per session.
